1. BARZINHO, Miramar

If you’ve ever wished for a friendly, little bar, tucked into a quiet Goan street, one where the bartender remembers your drink and the food makes you feel like you’ve been invited to someone’s home kitchen — Barzinho is your place.

A new restaurant, cafe and chic bar debut on Goa’s coast

Newly opened in the leafy lanes of Miramar, this charming, bamboo-fringed space hits all the right notes: intimate but not cliquey, low-lit but never moody, and easygoing in that way only truly local bars can be.

The food? A tight, thoughtful menu by home chefs, Monalisa and Saurav Parashar (The guys behind Soul Chef) who don’t try to do it all — just the things they do best. Expect indigenous Assamese favourites, a warm bowl of Khow Suey, and the knockout Chicken A La Kiev — a tribute to their childhood dinners at Trincas in Calcutta.

Add to that a gin-focused cocktail menu, a cigar-friendly corner, and whisky shelves that mean business, and you’ve got yourself a proper grown-up bar with serious soul.

2 BREAKAWAY CAFE PIZZERIA, Caranzalem

Hidden away in sleepy Caranzalem, near Panjim, Breakaway is Goa’s newest pizza shrine —and it’s not messing around. Think leopard-spotted Neapolitan crusts, a tomato sauce that’s equal parts tang and umami, and toppings that don’t try too hard.

The fig and goat cheese is an earthy-sweet dream, while the pepperoni with hot honeyquietly sneaks up on you with its perfect balance of spicy and sweet.

This place isn’t chasing trends — it’s just doing what it does really, really well. Add a strong cortado and a peaceful vibe, and you’ve got your new rainy-day haunt.

3. OYA’S UMAMI, Tonca

Goa’s first dedicated Naga kitchen is finally a permanent fixture, and it’s everything we hoped it would be. Oya’s Umami is no-fuss and full-flavour, a little haven in Tonca where smoky pork, axone, bamboo shoot, and heaps of rice are served with warmth and honesty.

It’s soul food for spice-lovers. The soupy noodles are perfect for the weather, and everything is made in small batches with proper home-cooked care. It’s food that hits deep, made by someone who really, really loves what she does.
