Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A youth from Indore looted an NRI of ₹2.68 crore, impersonating as a woman through a voice changing application, as reported by police on Sunday.
According to information, Venkat Kalga, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, who currently works in USA's North Carolina, complained to the Crime Branch that he received a marriage proposal from a girl on the Bharat Matrimonial site.
He then started talking to him on calls and video calls to that person, only to discover that he person is a man and a fraudster.
It is said, while talking on video call, the accused used a voice-changing app and kept his front camera off. One night the camera got turned on accidently during the video call, which revealed the fraud.
According to victim NRI, the conversation started after they exchanged their numbers. They started chatting and video calling each other. During the same, the accused talked to the victim intimately, and looted him of over Rs. 2.68 crore in installments by making different excuses.
The Crime Branch registered a case and started investigating the matter.
During the investigation, the police reached the accused Vishal Jeswani and his sister Simran. The Crime Branch arrested Vishal from Ahmedabad and Simran from Indore.
Vishal told the Crime Branch during interrogation that Simran talked to him on call two-three times. After this, he used to talk to him in a girl's voice.
Simran also talked to Venkat on video call two to three times posing as Barkha's sister. During interrogation, it was revealed that Vishal is the mastermind of this entire fraud.
