Ghaziabad: Forensic analysis has confirmed that approximately 1,500 individuals were present during the violent mob attack on police in Nahal village on May 25, which resulted in the death of Constable Saurabh Deshwal. Investigators used mobile tower location data and recovered video footage from three CCTV systems installed in nearby homes to establish a clearer timeline and identify individuals involved.
From the compiled digital evidence, authorities have identified at least 140 people allegedly engaged in the violence, including stone-pelting and firing. So far, 65 individuals have been detained for questioning, with 15 found to be directly involved in the assault. Those arrested include Qadir alias Mantar, a known history-sheeter. His brother Adil has also been seen in footage physically attacking police personnel.
Investigators face ongoing challenges in pinpointing the exact weapon used in Constable Deshwal’s killing. Video footage recorded during the incident is hindered by poor visibility due to nighttime conditions, complicating efforts to match ballistic evidence with a specific firearm.
Police have indicated that more arrests are expected as the investigation expands. Additional surveillance footage and data analysis are underway to verify identities and roles of other participants. Authorities have also not ruled out the possibility of a coordinated mobilization in the village prior to the incident.
The incident, which involved direct assault on law enforcement, has led to increased security in the region and a broader review of response protocols during communal disturbances.
