Local train services on the Western Railway line were running up to 20 minutes behind schedule on Wednesday , causing inconvenience to thousands of daily commuters across Mumbai and its suburbs. The delays were primarily due to caution orders at several locations for pre-monsoon maintenance and ongoing infrastructure upgrade projects.
"To ensure safety during the upgrade work, speed restrictions were imposed on multiple sections of the route, leading to slower train movements, including those of air-conditioned local trains," said an official.
According to railway sources, maintenance activities were underway at several key stations, including Borivali, Kandivali, Saphale, Kelwe, Nalasopara, Vasai Yard, and the stretch between Jogeshwari and Goregaon.
The work involved repairs and upgrades to railway tracks, signaling systems, overhead electrical wires, and drainage infrastructure—critical components that require reinforcement ahead of the monsoon season.
