Apart from his wicket taking ability, Rathi also became famous for his unique 'notebook celebration' which has already landed him trouble twice. Ahead of LSG's next match against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2025, Rathi finally revealed the story behind his infamous celebration.

After LSG's victory over Mumbai Indians in Lucknow, Rathi shared that his idol is none other than Sunil Narine. This connection led to an amusing moment during a training session at Eden Gardens on Sunday, when Rathi met his hero for the first time. As Rishabh Pant introduced Rathi to Narine, Nicholas Pooran couldn't resist teasing the young spinner. "So, tell me, he doesn’t celebrate. Why do you celebrate?" Pooran asked. Without missing a beat, Rathi replied, “I’m from Delhi.” The comment had Narine, Pooran, and Pant in fits of laughter. Pant also joked, "He’s a ticket collector. Narine’s a wicket collector. He’s writing the cheques."
Digvesh Rathi's disciplinary issues
Rathi’s notebook celebration, though a nod to West Indies pacer Kesrick Williams, has caused him some disciplinary issues. The young spinner had first caught attention when he used the notebook celebration after dismissing Priyansh Arya in the match against Punjab Kings.The BCCI fined him 50% of his match fees for celebrating despite a prior warning.
Despite his earlier fine, Rathi continued his enthusiastic celebrations after dismissing Mumbai Indians' Naman Dhir, which led to the second fine. This lead to second demerit points, on top of the one he received during LSG’s match against Punjab Kings on April 1.
