PCOD in Female: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common disease that affects women's hormones. It can affect not only the body but also the mind. Scientists at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay found in a new study that PCOS can weaken women's ability to concentrate and think. PCOS usually complains of irregular periods, formation of small cysts and lumps in the ovaries, and an increase in male hormone (androgen).

Women suffering from PCOS remain stressed.
Some earlier research found that women suffering from PCOS remain stressed, while this new study has discovered the mental state necessary to 'concentrate'. The study observed that women suffering from PCOS struggle a lot to concentrate. Lack of attention can affect their ability to think, understand, and remember any information.
Research was done on 101 suffering women.
Maitreyi Redkar and Professor Azizuddin Khan, working in the Psychophysiology Laboratory of IIT Bombay, studied two groups of women. It included 101 women suffering from PCOS and 72 completely healthy women. Before starting the study, the team checked the hormones of the women in both groups. After this, they made all the women do 'some activities related to concentration'.
During this, they found that women suffering from PCOS were reacting later compared to healthy women. Their attention was diverted quickly. In the study, it was found that when women with PCOS were given a concentration test, they took 50 percent more time to answer and made about 10 percent more mistakes.
PCOD affects daily work
- Professor Khan, who led the study, said, "This experiment is based on tests that measure very small periods, i.e. milliseconds, to see how and how quickly a person reacts to a particular signal. These small differences, which we usually do not notice, show a big deficiency. This deficiency can also affect our ability to work in daily life."
- Researchers said that there is an imbalance of hormones in PCOS, which can reduce the alertness of our brain and increase the time to react. Women suffering from PCOS have increased androgen levels, and they are also insulin resistant. This insulin resistance can also affect the ability to concentrate.

- Having insulin resistance means that the body is unable to digest glucose properly, so the brain cells (neurons) also get less energy. When the brain cells do not function properly, our ability to concentrate and think becomes weak.
– PCOS affects the mental state. Researchers said that when we are unable to concentrate properly on multiple tasks at the same time, our memory becomes weak. If it becomes weak, then everyday tasks become difficult.
