By airplane, we can reach any destination in a few hours, which is possible in much less time than other modes of travel. But some people find the experience of air travel scary, which is called aerophobia. Around 2 to 5% of people around the world are affected by this phobia, and the number of women in it is more than men.

Statistics do not give relief.
Although the number of accidents in air travel is the lowest compared to other modes, people suffering from aerophobia are not able to feel relief even after knowing this. The person suffering from this phobia is not afraid of a plane crash, but of situations like taking off, landing, or being locked in the plane.
How to overcome this fear?
Reach the root of fear: First of all, you must understand the reason for your fear. This fear can be due to old accidents or experiences. If the person is asked in detail about his fear, then it can be easy to identify its causes.
Exposure therapy: After knowing the cause of fear, it can be gradually managed through exposure therapy. In this, the person is gradually confronted with that fear and is taught ways to calm the nervous system.
Behavioral therapy: Through this therapy, an attempt is made to reduce the fearful thoughts coming into the mind of the person. It can prove to be mentally helpful.
Distraction: You need to distract your attention during the flight. For this, focus on things related to your five senses in the flight - see five things, touch four, hear three, smell two, and taste one. Your mind will be busy with this puzzle, and you will not feel fear.
Avoid sugar and alcohol: Psychotherapists believe that consuming sugar or alcohol before the flight does not reduce fear; rather it increases your blood sugar and your heartbeat becomes faster. Therefore, it is important to avoid it.

Talking to the crew: Talking to a crew member before takeoff can reduce your nervousness. This can also give you some important information about the flight, which can increase your confidence.
