Chhath Puja is a four-day sacred festival, which will be celebrated this year from October 25 to October 28, 2025. This festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion, especially in Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and parts of Nepal. It is also known as Surya Shashthi, Daala Chhath, and Daala Puja.
First Day: Nahai-Khai (October 25, Saturday)
Chhath Puja begins with Nahai-Khai. On this day, devotees bathe in a river or pond and consume pure, simple food. The house is also cleaned, and fruits, lamps, and other items are purchased for the puja.
Second Day: Kharna Puja (October 26, Sunday)
On this day, devotees fast the entire day and break their fast after sunset by offering Prasad to Chhathi Maiya. The Prasad is distributed among family and friends.
Third Day: Sandhya Arghya (October 27, Monday)
On this day, devotees go to the banks of a river or pond in the evening and offer water to the setting sun. Sunset time on this day is 5:40 pm. At night, devotees listen to the Chhath Puja story and sing devotional songs.
Fourth Day: Usha Arghya (October 28, Tuesday)
On the final day, milk offerings are made to the rising sun in the morning. Following this, devotees break their waterless fast, concluding the grand festival.
