The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the India A team for the England tour. Karun Nair got the reward for his excellent performance in domestic cricket, and he has been given a place in the team for this. India A team has to play two first-class matches against the England Lions team on the England tour. The Indian team will play under the captaincy of Abhimanyu Easwaran on this tour.
Schedule of the series
These two matches between India A and England Lions will be played in Canterbury and Northampton. This tour will end with a match against India's senior team. The first match between India A and England Lions will be played from May 30 to June 2, while the second match will be held in Northampton from June 6 to 9. After this, the team will play intra-squad matches from June 13 to 16.
Karun's return to the team after eight years
The most interesting thing about this team is that Karun Nair has been given a chance in it, who last played a Test match for India in 2017. He had shown his prowess in domestic cricket, and his return to the team is due to this performance. India wants to strengthen its Test team, and this tour can open the doors for Nair to return to the senior team. 31-year-old Karun, playing for Vidarbha in domestic cricket, scored 779 runs in eight matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which included five centuries. Karun had scored centuries in four consecutive matches during this period. In the Ranji Trophy, Karun scored 863 runs in nine matches, which included a century and a half-century against Kerala in the final. Vidarbha won the title by defeating Kerala.
Gill-Sudarshan was included for the second Test.
While Abhimanyu will lead the team against England Lions, Dhruv Jurel has been appointed as the vice-captain. This team has a good mix of young players as well as experienced players. Ishan Kishan has also been successful in making a place in the team for this, due to which he is the second wicketkeeper option along with Jurel in the team. At the same time, Shardul Thakur will take charge of the fast bowling attack. The Indian selectors have also included Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan in the team, who will join the team before the second match.
