India on Thursday said the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra may resume soon, and a public notice could be issued regarding it.
Both India and China have been considering restarting the pilgrimage as part of their efforts to improve ties. This follows the disengagement of troops at the two remaining friction points – Demchok and Depsang – under an agreement made in October last year.
"We will soon issue a public notice on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and there is a possibility of resumption of the Yatra soon," said External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
"The Yatra will happen this year and we are making preparations. More information will be put out for the public soon," he added.
The pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar has not taken place since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and border tensions between the two countries.
