Sanjay Dutt, one of Bollywood’s most well-known actors, recently shared insights about his time in jail during an appearance on the Netflix show The Great Indian Kapil Show. Rather than focusing on the hardships, the actor spoke about how he kept himself busy and found ways to stay productive during those challenging years. From earning wages through simple crafts to directing a theatre group made up of inmates, his jail experience was far from ordinary.

Sanjay Dutt recalled how he spent his time behind the bars

When asked about regrets in life, Sanjay candidly said the only real regret he had was losing his parents. He lightened the mood with a joke about his time in prison, saying something along the lines of, "I went to jail and came out," which made the audience laugh heartily.

While behind bars, Sanjay Dutt earned money by doing manual work such as making chairs and paper bags, much like other prisoners. This helped him stay occupied and also contributed to the prison’s wage program. But his activities didn’t stop there, he revealed he started a theatre company inside the jail, where he took on the role of director. The actors? Fellow prisoners, including some who were convicted of serious crimes like murder.

One of the most surprising moments he shared was about an inmate named Mishra ji, who shaved his beard on the order of the jail superintendent. He recalled, "His name was Mishra ji. As he pulled out his razor, I asked him how long has he been in the jail. He told me he was in the jail for 15 years.”
