Union Minister Nitin Gadkari spoke about the importance of adopting alternative fuels and biofuels to combat pollution and reduce the country's dependency on fossil fuels during the launch of the Revolt RV1 electric motorcycle in New Delhi. Speaking at the event, Gadkari shared his vision on EVs and alternative fuel technologies.
Highlighting his long-standing efforts, Gadkari stated, "From 2004, I have been constantly pursuing alternative fuel and biofuel for India. It gives me great pleasure to see how the industry is progressing." He noted that the Indian automotive industry , once employing 7 lakh people, now employs 22 lakh, with 4.5 lakh jobs created in the EV sector alone.
Gadkari praised the electric two-wheeler industry, highlighting its global reach: "50% of our two-wheeler production is exported, and there is significant potential for even more growth in the coming years."
The minister encouraged Indian manufacturers to explore new technologies such as ethanol, methanol , and biofuels, adding, "I always encourage using ethanol, methanol, bio-LNG, and bio-CNG. These are the fuels of the future." He referenced ongoing projects, such as producing ethanol from agricultural waste and developing new battery technologies in Jammu and Kashmir, which holds 6 percent of the world's lithium reserves .
Anjali Rattan, Co-Founder and Chairperson of Rattan India Enterprises, confirmed plans to begin exports to Sri Lanka and explore opportunities in Nepal, Africa, and Latin America. She also announced the plan for expanding the sales network to 500 outlets in 12-18 months, up from the current 125, with 250 outlets by the end of this fiscal year.
