What was feared is now happening. A few days ago, Meta confirmed advertising on WhatsApp, and now these ads are visible. Now, Status Ads and Promoted Channels are being rolled out in the Android beta version of WhatsApp. According to the report, WhatsApp beta version 2.25.21.11 has been released for select beta testers, in which both these features are being seen. Its purpose is to help business users and creators promote their content.
What is the Status Ads feature?
Through the Status Ads feature, users with business accounts will now be able to put their ads in the WhatsApp status section. These ads will appear in the middle of the status of users' contacts, but they will be tagged as "Sponsored" so that users can know that it is an ad.
According to the report, users can also block these ads so that they do not appear to them again. This feature will give advertisers a chance to reach users directly, without harming their privacy.
What does the Promoted Channels feature do?
The Promoted Channels feature is similar to advertising, but it focuses specifically on promoting public channels. If a brand or business promotes a channel, it will be highlighted in the channel directory, increasing its reach and visibility. Such promoted channels will also have a small label, which will show it as "Sponsored". This feature will help creators and brands gain recognition faster than the organic way.
New report feature for ad tracking
Earlier, another feature was also introduced in WhatsApp's beta version 2.25.19.15, in which users can download a detailed report of the ads they saw in the Status and Channels section. This report also gives information about advertisers and the dates the ad was shown.
