'This 3-in-1 waterproof trench coat transforms into a gilet – it saved me so much wardrobe space'

Send Push

Autumn is one of my favourite seasons when it comes to fashion, mainly because I love nothing more than a great coat. Long ones, short ones, colourful ones, fur ones; you name it, and I own it. However the one downside of having a penchant for outerwear is space – and coats take up a lot of space.

That’s why when I spotted which promised to give me three different styles of outerwear all in one single bit of hanging space, I knew it would be the one for me. Plus, it’s incredibly practical; it’s waterproof, cosy, and timeless enough to be worn with anything – definitely a winner.

The will set you back £124, which is a little bit of a splurge, but considering you’re getting three jackets for the price of one, it’s the equivalent of buying three different coats at about £40 each, which makes it much easier to justify. The Anthology coat has three different ways of wearing it thanks to a zip-out lining which doubles as a cosy fleece gilet.

This means your three ways to wear it are:

  • As a fleece-lined waterproof trench coat

  • As a fleece and nylon longline gilet

  • As a lightweight foldable rain mac (without the fleece lining)

Considering how practical all three of these options are for the autumn weather, it’s the perfect pick for your new season wardrobe. It even means you’re covered for all weather possibilities when out and about.

It has details similar to a classic trench coat, such as a back flap and layers over the shoulders, which makes it easy to style with just about any outfit. It also has the added bonus of a hood, so you’re completely protected from the rain from head to toe.

Pros of the
  • Completely waterproof

  • Has a hood

  • Versatile to wear

  • Saves you wardrobe space

  • Timeless design that’s easy to style

  • Adjustable and comfortable

  • Inclusive size range from UK8-UK32

Cons of the
  • Expensive

  • The waist toggles are tricky to adjust when zipped up

All in all, I can see this being a piece that I’m going to be getting a lot of wear out of this autumn. I usually find it really tricky to find jackets that are waterproof and practical but still look chic and stylish – but this totally nails the brief and has become a firm favourite in my wardrobe.

If you’re after something similar in a different colour, has a similar trench coat style, but comes in a dark khaki green colour instead. It’s currently on sale, down from £170 to £119, with sizes 12-18 still in stock.
