Phillip Schofield's daughter reveals how tough it was when he came out on This Morning

Phillip Schofield's daughter has discussed that her family was almost torn apart when he came out in 2020.

The presenter is attempting to rebuild his career after it imploded last year after an "unwise, but not illegal" affair was uncovered behind the scenes of This Morning involving the host and a much younger male colleague. Schofield quit This Morning and lost his lucrative career with ITV in light of the affair which he claimed he had kept secret from everyone including his co-host Holly Willoughby and his agents, who immediately dropped him.

Three years prior to his affair bombshell, Schofield stunned his family and friends when he came out as gay - giving a detailed interview about his sexuality struggles on This Morning. The 62-year-old is still married to wife Stephanie Lowe, 60, with whom he shares daughters Molly, 30, and Ruby, 28.

A year on from his career implosion, Schofield is appearing on a Channel 5 documentary called Cast Away which will see him stranded and alone on an island for 10 days. Footage from the show also shows Molly revealing how her family was rocked when Schofield came out as gay in February 2020.

She says: "When my dad came out it was very hard for me. It was very hard for the entire family. Mainly my mum, of course, everything was turned upside down. But we talked through it and it got easier."

Further footage shows Schofield enjoying a BBQ lunch with his family including wife Stephanie and both daughters before he leaves them to search for his soul in isolation on the island. They all speak on camera to show they are very close again despite Schofield's lies about his affair with a junior male staff member on This Morning which led to him quitting TV.

Phil previously explained that his daughters helped him cope with the scandal that ended his television career and pulled him back from the brink. During a 2023 interview with Amol Rajan for the BBC in June last year. He said: "My girls saved my life.

"They said last week they haven't left me for a moment. They've been by my side every moment because they're scared to let me out of their sight. What is that like for daughters to have to go with something like that?

"And they said to me, 'Don't you dare do this on our watch. We're supposed to be looking after you". If my girls hadn't been there, I wouldn't be here, because I don't see my future. And so how much do you want a man to take, and are you truly only happy when he's dead. And this is how Caroline Flack felt. And it didn't stop. And I know I've done something wrong and I've owned up to doing something wrong."
