Phillip Schofield has defiantly told his critics to kiss his bum after appearing on controversial Channel 5 show, Cast Away.

destroyed his own career when with a much younger male colleague behind-the-scenes of his show The scandal - which was entirely of his own making - exploded in his face when it was discovered he lied about the affair after it was rumbled, and he was forced to cut ties with ITV and was immediately dropped by his agent.

But he made his return to screens this week on Cast Away - which saw him left on an deserted island and left to fend for himself over a 10 day period. Equipped with cameras, the fallen TV host talked about himself and explained the thoughts and feelings he had endured after his contract with ITV went up in smoke.

Following the conclusion of the three-part docuseries, Schofield took to to share a photograph of himself running naked into the dark. He wrote in a caption: "Thank you for your incredible support, I’ve been shown hundreds of lovely messages which are very important to me. I’m so proud of the shows."

He also strategically positioned the caption to cover his bare buttocks, as he wrote: "Obvs the haters can… kiss my a**e." Schofield's show was something of a damp squib on TV, as ITV drama Joan outperformed his documentary when it began on Monday night.

During the show, Schofield addressed the camera and vowed to quit TV forever. He said: "I. Don't. Want. To. Do. It. Any. More.

I'll be slammed for this! ' mad rant.' But the thing is, I don't care anymore. I don't care."

He continued: "This is me having my say as I bow out. And the good thing is, when you do a program like this, and you do it just for yourself, you have nothing to lose."

Failing to acknowledge he ruined his own career, he continued: "They've taken pretty much everything. Reputation. Dignity. Legacy. Everything. Anyway, I'm not bleating. I'm just getting it off my chest. The reason I'm doing that is because I am loving this challenge. I am loving what I'm finding out about myself. I'm loving every day. When I get on that boat and I leave here, I will know that I did my best and I said my piece."

He added: "And anyone who's bitter about that honestly, you can f**k off. Because I don't give a s**t. I quit my job. Mic drop." His sentiments did not go down well with the great British public, however, as he was slammed as a narcissit.

One unimpressed viewer slammed him via X, writing: "It's all someone else's fault! Not his!" And another typed: "Good riddance to him and let’s hope he never graces our TV’s again!"

And a further fan slammed the star, writing: "What a narcissist piece of absolute s**t.. he has to go on TV to say he’s bowing out TV!! He’s saying everything’s been taken from him…. No. Just no one sane wants to watch his lying, cheating... face."
