Nottingham Forest's Anfield dressing room reaction rubs salt into Arne Slot's wounds

Send Push

Nottingham Forest had waited over for half a century to win at Anfield - and they made sure to celebrate it in style.

Dance music boomed out of the away dressing room and echoed through the corridors of the stadium as jubilant Forest players toasted their first success on the red half of Merseyside since February 1969, five months before man landed on the moon.

Distraught Reds boss Arne Slot was forced to walk through the party atmosphere as he undertook his post-match media duties following his first experience of defeat, with Forest stars keeping the celebrations going as they revelled in their historic victory.

"It is a massive win, the atmosphere is crazy,” said matchwinner Callum Hudson-Odoi. "We made sure we had the right mentality from the beginning. Fifty five years and now it's done."

Hudson-Odoi’s introduction along with his fellow winger Anthony Elanga proved crucial as Liverpool ’s tiring legs couldn’t deal with their speed.

"We knew as subs we would come on at a certain point, we had fresh legs to run in behind and cause them problems,” continued Hudson-Odoi, who won three caps for England as a teenager. “The manager told us to make an impact and we are buzzing with the win.”

Hudson-Odoi couldn’t have placed his shot for the winner any better. "I saw the space in the far corner and as soon as I hit it I knew there was a good chance of it going in,” he said. “We started well and we ended well.”

Forest skipper Ryan Yates hailed the instructions from manager Nuno Espirito Santo as his side remained unbeaten this season with two wins and two draws from their four matches.

"We set out with a gameplan and stuck to it brilliantly, the manager made changes at the right time and they made an impact," he said.

"The manager gives us belief every day that we are good enough anywhere we go. We respect the opponents but we really showed our quality. The crowd can be powerful here so we had to have spells of possession and limit our mistakes."
