Man turns basic property into 'beautiful' student home – but everyone says same thing

If you've ever lived in a student home, you'll know they have a tenancy to be grimy and are often decorated not to the highest standard.

However, one man, who decided to renovate a student house as a personal refurb project, confused people on TikTok, as they were left wondering why he'd decorated to such a high standard for students - who have a reputation for being gross.

James Coupland, who posts on TikTok as @jamesproperty_, said that he'd temporarily moved into his "refurb project" which he was going to rent to uni students, saying that he "moved in to help with the finishing touches".

The modern house looked way nicer than most student houses many had seen, with strip lights up the stairs, herringbone-style flooring, and modern artwork on the walls.

This prompted many to leave comments like: "This is too beautiful for students". Meanwhile, another observed: "Cream sofa is brave for students. Hope you bought a plastic sheet cover, grandma style".

James shared that he was adding the final touches such as a sofa, and the lighting in the hand-rail, and he also shared that he'd been to Dunelm to buy bedding as staged properties have interest faster than ones that show bare mattresses.

In the caption, he wrote: "I also wanted to help stage the property as this has many benefits including 20% increase in tenant viewings (as your photos look better on the listing), helps to achieve up to 10% more in rental income, rent your properties out quicker within 10 days of listing compared to properties that aren’t staged which can take longer."

In the comments, some defended students, saying: "Most of the time the landlords don’t bother actually renovating the house so they’re all s**tholes to start with".

But someone penned: "And will be ruined very soon. What up with this generation kids all need mandatory cleaning 101 classes in uni". "Walls and furniture gonna be wrecked in six months", another predicted.
