Limescale can easily build up in toilets over time, leaving behind stains which can affect the performance of the toilet.

According to a expert, there are various ways to keep the , including using a bottle of cola.

Sarah Dempsey, cleaning expert at MyJobQuote.co.uk, said: "One of my favourite cleaning hacks is using cola for cleaning the toilet. Unusually, it actually contains a lot of very effective cleaning properties. Simply grab a bottle of the fizzy good stuff and pour it around the rim of the toilet bowl."

"Leave it to do its thing for an hour, and then give it a good scrub with a toilet brush. This will effectively remove stubborn stains from the toilet bowl and leave it fresh and clean."

A bottle of cola can be purchased for as little as 50p from stores like and . When using cola, it is important to get a full-fat bottle to get the full effects as it is the carbonic acid in the fizzy drink which helps to clean the stains.

While this will help to remove limescale from the bowl, it is also important to clean the seat, according to the expert. Sarah explained: "Use your all-purpose bathroom cleaner to clean all areas of the lid and toilet seat properly on both sides."

"Use the same method as the tank and the other toilet surfaces. Lower the seat back on the bowl when you've finished cleaning the seat. Go over the toilet flush handle with a disinfecting wipe. It may be worth doing this a couple of times as this is a high-touch area, then allow it to dry."

"It's also worth giving the toilet flush handle a quick wipe with a disinfecting wipe once a day between proper cleaning sessions just to ensure this remains as clean as possible."
