Donald Trump compares Israel and Hezbollah to 'two kids fighting in the schoolyard'

Donald Trump has likened the conflict in the Middle East to "two kids fighting" in a bizarre new rant.

Tensions have been rising after Iran fired a barrage of nearly 200 missiles at Israel yesterday and the IDF began an incursion into Lebanon in an effort to "destroy" the Hezbollah militant group. Israel said it intercepted many of Iran's missiles, while Iran claimed most of its missiles hit their targets.

There were no immediate reports of casualties. In a campaign speech in Milwaukee just hours after the exchange of fire, Trump warned of the impending danger of "World War III", while also comparing the two sides to children fighting in the playground.

The former US president and 2024 Republican candidate said: "I've been talking about World War III for a long time, and I don't want to make predictions because the predictions always come true. We're not going to make predictions but they are very close to global catastrophe. This is a little bit like two kids fighting in the schoolyard, sometimes you just sort of let it go a little bit and we'll see what happens."

He then moved on to take aim at rival Kamala Harris and current president Joe Biden, adding: "We have a non-existent president and a non-existent vice president who should be in charge, but nobody knows what's going on, she was at a fundraiser in San Francisco."

Last night, Donald Trump branded CBS moderators "extremely biased" in a string of angry social media posts after Democrat Tim Walz and Republican JD Vance went head-to-head in a vice presidential debate. Trump made the accusations against CBS hosts Norah O'Donnell and Margaret Brennan during the televised discussion on Tuesday evening.

The US presidential hopeful launched into a furious tirade on his Truth Social page throughout the face-off, and even referred to Walz as "Tampon Tim". He wrote afterwards: "JD Vance just CRUSHED Tampon Tim with the FACTS. America was GREAT when I was President, and we will Make America Great Again after we win on November 5th!"

Tuesday night's debate began with a discussion of the Middle East. Speaking first, Governor Walz mentioned Trump's agitated on-stage manner a few weeks earlier and suggested it showed he lacked leadership. He said: "What's fundamental here is that steady leadership is going to matter. And the world saw it on that debate stage a few weeks ago, a nearly 80-year-old Donald Trump talking about crowd sizes is not what we need in this moment."

Vance, in his reply, argued that Trump is an intimidating figure whose presence on the international stage acts as a deterrent. He said: "Gov Walz can criticise Donald Trump's tweets, but effective, smart diplomacy and peace through strength is how you bring stability back to a very broken world."
