Chelsea are through to the last four of the Conference League after beating Legia Warsaw over two legs, but the Blues were beaten this evening at Stamford Bridge.
After boasting a three-goal advantage heading into this evening's game, it was fairly routine for the Blues - who had far too much for Legia Warsaw over the course of the two legs. Despite a healthy lead going into tonight's match, Enzo Maresca selected a surprisingly strong line-up in SW6.
Chelsea had a couple of golden chances to go ahead early on but it was the visitors who took the lead in west London. Tomas Pekhart was fouled by Filip Jorgensen inside the box and the Legia forward converted the penalty, sneaking the ball past the Danish goalkeeper.
However, later in the half, Chelsea found a leveller through Marc Cucurella. The Spaniard tapped in from close range after being found via a cutback from Jadon Sancho on the right-hand side.
Legia retook the lead in the second period with Steve Kapuadi heading past Jorgensen after some more sloppy defending from the hosts. It finished 2-1 to the visitors on the night, but the Blues are through to the semi-finals next month.
Below, Bobby Vincent rates the Chelsea players out of 10 based on their performance tonight...
Filip Jorgensen - 4
Back in goal for the Conference League, as widely expected. Gave away an early penalty that didn't look great on his part. Then he got a hand on the penalty and probably should have done better. Perhaps a bit fortunate not to give away another penalty in the second-half. Not his night.
Josh Acheampong - 6
After his excellent performance in Poland, the youngster kept his place in the Conference League side. Always so calm and composed in possession, you can see why he is so highly rated at the club.
Tosin Adarabioyo - 6
Did fine. Fans got on his back a couple of times for being too slow in possession, but that is more of a team-wide issue at this point.
Benoit Badiashile - 5
I'm not sure what he was doing after 20 minutes when Legia almost made it 2-0. He was so high up the pitch and the visitors counter-attacked down his side. Fortunately for him, it was put just wide.
Marc Cucurella - 8
A bit surprising to see him start. The Spaniard was always in so much space on the left-hand side with Legia's right-back tucked in very centrally off the ball. Found himself more central just past the 30-minute-mark and tapped in after a Sancho cross. Sixth goal of the season for Cucurella. Almost had his seventh, but it was disallowed for offside.
Reece James - 5
Did okay. Surprised he started with Fulham coming on Sunday. Gave it away on a couple of occasions.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall - 5
Didn't notice the midfielder too much. Not as much of an impact than in recent cameos.
Jadon Sancho - 7
After back-to-back performances where he started to look like his old self again, Sancho carried on his excellent form. Produced a peach of a cutback to find Cucurella, who levelled the game.
Cole Palmer - 6
Fourteen games without a goal for Palmer coming into this one, and he missed a golden opportunity one minute in. Missed another one a couple of minutes later, albeit it was saved. Not quite sure how you put a finger on his struggles in front of goal at the moment. Now 15 appearances without a goal.
Christopher Nkunku - 5
Ineffective yet again. Used from the left wing but struggled to see what he was adding to the Chelsea attack.
Nicolas Jackson - 5
His first appearance in the Conference League this season. Jackson, though, was unable to get as involved as he would have liked. Still without a goal in 2025. Off at half-time.
Tyrique George (on for Jackson 46') - 6
Slightly surprised he didn't start. Slotted in as the No.9 in a direct replacement for Jackson. Had a shot cleared off the line and was unlucky not to score.
Malo Gusto (on for Cucurella 57') - 6
Fine cross minutes after coming on to set Noni Madueke up. Looked bright at left-back.
Noni Madueke (on for Palmer 57') - 6
Really bright when he came on. Unfortunate not to score.
Pedro Neto (on for Sancho 83') - N/A
Not enough time to impact the match.
