Worried bosses are so desperate to avoid another resurfaced tweet scandal that they trawled contestants' past posts for hours before they .

The show is off to an explosive opening after the famous compound was split into two factions in the , with - with viewers watching at home loving the 'cruel' start.

But in the weeks before they went in, staff made certain that past wouldn't come back to haunt anyone as they looked to avoid a repeat of the T. Producers came under fire when fans found a series of racist and homophobic tweets shared by the contestant before she left the house.

The move has been made to protect the housemates' welfare, MailOnline report. Housemates "undergone a series of background checks including checks of their social media by an independent specialised service" before going on the programme, which kicked off this weekend.

As well as the checks, the contestant's family and friends have been requested "not to post any content on their individual social accounts for the duration of their time in the house". Bosses came in for criticism after the last civilian series as Trish issued an apology after her eviction from the house.

The 33-year-old posted the statement on her X account, where she apologised to "marginalised groups" for the now-deleted tweets. Her statement continued: "I'm aware that some very concerning old tweets of mine have re-surfaced, and I would like to sincerely apologise for the harmful stereotypes I perpetuated and the pain I have caused to the marginalised communities and groups of people mentioned.

"There are no excuses for the ignorance that I showed and I am deeply disappointed, embarrassed and ashamed that I once made such comments. I have come a very long way since by educating myself and being educated by others on the impact and harm those views cause. It is part of the reason why I am so passionate about standing up for others and holding myself to a high standard of responsibility and accountability for my actions.

"I appreciate the support you've all given me on the show and I understand you feel disappointed. I know apologies can seem convenient but I mean it from the bottom of my heart: I am truly sorry. I hope it is possible for you to offer me grace and believe people can change."
